Candidates Respond to The Chamber and Carrboro Business Alliance Election Surveys


Chapel Hill, NC (October 21, 2021): The Chamber For a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro and the Carrboro Business Alliance are pleased to release candidate responses to their 2021 election surveys, which reflect candidate positions on a variety of business-critical issues from the 18 individuals who filed to run for Chapel Hill and Carrboro Mayor and Town Council.

“We appreciate each and every candidate for their willingness to serve our community,” said Katie Loovis, Vice President of External Affairs, The Chamber For a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro and staff support for the Carrboro Business Alliance. “We believe the candidates’ survey responses help show Chamber and CBA members and friends how committed the candidates are to making our community a great place to start and grow a business.”


Races

There are seven local races (Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough Mayor and Town Council/Commission races and Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education) and 28 candidates vying for 15 seats. Visit The Chamber’s Election Hub to review the full list of local candidates and easily access their campaign websites, social media, and email addresses.

Survey 

The 2021 election surveys are designed as Yes, No, or Unsure instruments. The survey questions are informed by The Chamber’s policy platform and the CBA’s policy priorities, and shaped with input from the volunteer business leaders who serve on The Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee and the CBA’s Policy Committee. Visit The Chamber’s Election Hub to review the candidate survey responses.

Election Hub

The Chamber’s Election Hub is a one-stop shop for Chamber members and friends to access the information they need about the candidates and the process before they go to the polls. The Election Hub features in-depth information for the Orange County races and provides links to election information for races in surrounding counties. 

How to Vote

There are three ways to vote in North Carolina: 1) vote by mail and the there is no special circumstance or reason needed to vote by mail in NC, but you must request a ballot before the Oct 26 deadline; 2) vote early in person, which is underway now through Oct 30 with site options and times and same-day voter registration; and 3) vote in person on Election Day, which is Nov 2.


About The Chamber's Election Activation: The Chamber engages in the Primary and General Elections to ensure Chamber members and friends know who and what is on their ballot and where and when to vote. Annually, The Chamber: 1) activates the Election Hub to share timely information and 2) conducts candidate surveys to reveal candidate positions on issues that matter to the local business community. In addition, from 2017-2020, The Chamber coordinated the (un)forum to share candidate videos and connect candidates with Chamber members and hosted candidate and elected official event(s).
