CBA and Town of Carrboro Co-Convene Parking Discussion
October 30, 2018
CARRBORO, NC: Today, the Carrboro Business Alliance and the Town of Carrboro co-convened an important discussion on parking with nearly 30 local business owners and town leaders actively participating.
The need for the two-hour meeting was heightened given the recent design for the new library (“The 203 Project”). The 203 Project will be built on the S. Greensboro Street surface lot and will take out of service 100 spaces while also generating new parking demand in the downtown. To address these new parking challenge realities, town staff developed a short- and long-term parking plan. While the plan prioritizes shoppers and customers and makes good progress, all agreed there is more to do.
The Carrboro Business Alliance and town staff designed the meeting to be a collaborative and constructive conversation on short- and long-term parking solutions, and an opportunity to collectively generate new ideas and solutions. The meeting took place at the ArtsCenter and the format included information sharing, group discussions, and small group breakout sessions.
The meeting met and exceeded goals, and a summary of the outcomes and new ideas will be shared soon. Participants included those who have parking, those who manage parking, those who need parking, and those with experience in creative parking solutions.
