About

Millie Dunn Veasey DAV Chapter 100 is proudly dedicated to serving veterans in Orange County and the surrounding area, providing support, advocacy, and resources to American veterans and their families. As an official local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Organization, we are committed to ensuring that no veteran is left behind, whether they are navigating VA benefits, transitioning into civilian life, or seeking community support.

Our chapter in named in honor of the trailblazing Mrs. Millie Dunn Veasey, a distinguished U.S. Army WWII Veteran, civil rights leader, and lifelong advocate for service and justice. A native of Raleigh, NC, Mrs. Veasey was one of the first African American women to serve in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) and was a member of the esteemed Sixth Triple Eight. This unit was formed in 1944, and in 1945 deployed to Europe 855 members strong, the first and only all-black, all-female battalion sent overseas during WWII.

She continued to break barriers post-service, servicing as the first female president of the NAACP Raleigh-Apex branch from 1965 to 1968, and spent decades uplifting her community through education, activism, and mentorship.

DAV Chapter 100 aspires to follow in her footsteps by fostering a culture of dignity, service and leadership. Through outreach, public education of DAV and its mission, and direct veteran support services, we work to honor her legacy while building a stronger, more inclusive future for those who have and will serve.
