11 Development Projects Underway in Downtown Chapel Hill and Five New or Expanded Businesses

A lot is happening in Downtown Chapel Hill, including eleven development projects and five new or expanded businesses. The following is a summary provided by the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, which is a nonprofit organization with a mission to be a champion and advocate for downtown Chapel Hill through programming, marketing, business support, and community building.
Development Projects: There are eleven development projects underway in Downtown Chapel Hill. The following summarizes what each project is and its status.
- 500 W Rosemary Street (four apartments): In planning.
- 137 E. Franklin/136 E. Rosemary (100,000 SF office): Exterior planned complete 1/22; Interior planned complete 8/22.
- East Rosemary Parking Deck (1,100 parking spaces): Under construction; planned complete 3/23.
- Wallace Deck (250,00 SF office): In planning, demolition planned 3/23.
- Old PNC Bank (21+ Age restricted multifamily): In Planning.
- Rosemary/Columbia Hotel (Extended Stay Hotel): 2023.
- Amity Station/Former Breadmen’s: In Construction.
- Orange County Visitor’s Bureau (New visitor’s building): Complete.
- Well Dot Building (office building): In planning.
- Topo Distillery Building (Distillery staying under new owner until can be moved): Sold.
- The PIT Building/462 W. Franklin (retail incubator): Complete.
Business Growth: There are five businesses starting or growing in Downtown Chapel Hill and three more to announce soon.
