Game-Changing Development
In the last month, Chapel Hill and Orange County approved a quarter of a billion dollars in economic development projects.
The Chapel Hill Town Council approved (5-3) a transformative ~$100 million agreement with Grubb Properties for the East Rosemary Redevelopment Project, which involves land exchanges and much-needed infrastructure investments. This deal will transform dilapidated buildings into 200k SF of innovative office and wet lab space and add desirable green space and structured parking while bringing to life our community’s long-held vision for our downtown and accelerating economic recovery. Next up: This evening (10/28/20) Chapel Hill Town Council will discuss their 30-year vision for the town and hear comments on the Future Land Use Map (FLUM). Read the agenda and join the discussion.
The Orange County Board of Commissioners approved (6-1) one of the most significant development projects in a generation: The Research Triangle Logistics Park (RTLP). This $150 million, 2.25 million SF light industrial and distribution center by Barrister Commercial Group is an ideal project for the Hillsborough Economic Development District as these are low water users, that will generate impressive new county tax revenues, create 1,000 new jobs with family-sustaining wages, and the project will sit adjacent to an interstate, a highway, and a major employment training center (Durham Tech). We have waited nearly forty years to get an economic development project like this in the EDD. Thank the 2020 Board of Commissioners here.
